My name is John. I am a web developer based out of Silver Spring, MD. I’ve been developing sites and applications for the web for the past 15 years, and I like to think I’ve gotten pretty good at it.

Location

I was born in the industrious port city of Guayaquil in a beautiful little country called Ecuador. At the ripe age of 5, I moved to the United States and have lived here every since. I’ve lived up and down the east coast throughout my life, eventually settling in Maryland to start and raise my family.

I work in Ellicott City, MD as a web-developer at The Connextion. The Connextion is an established technology business that specializes in web design, application development and search engine optimization, with a reputation for building and hosting solid and productive websites.

Family

I have a 5 (almost 6) year old son named Jonas who is the light of my life. His mother, Melanie, is currently pregnant with our second child who is due sometime in December. We have a dog (Lily) and a cat (Penelope) and live in a cute little house in the suburbs.

Experience

I primarily focus on developing sites with PHP and MySQL, but am well-versed using other web-technologies and languages. Programming and developing is more about understanding the process more than the specific language you create it with. I utilize and advocate web standards like CSS and XHTML, partially because its the right thing to do – mostly because it makes my life easier. I have experience developing on a variety of CMS platforms, including but not limited to WordPress, Drupal, Joomla, PrestaShop, OSCommerce, plus have created a variety of custom CMS systems to suit my clients needs. My musical tastes are moderately eclectic – here are a few random examples of bands I like: Muse, Radiohead, Nirvana, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Weezer, Calvin Harris, The Postal Service, Bach, Pink Floyd, Ween.

Movies & Television

Lately The Secret of Kels, Shrek 3, and Tangled have recently made their debut on our home-theater, at my son’s request. I’m a huge movie fan, but rarely have time to watch.

Recently some of my favorite shows have been: Stargate SG-1/Atlantis, Game of Thrones and True Blood.

Books

I love fantasy books. Robert Jordan and Raymod E. Feist are among my favorite authors.
